Practice & PrEP: Sharpening Your Skills to Prevent HIV

Optimizing and expanding the use of PrEP in adolescents and young adults requires not only education to improve knowledge about HIV risk and prevention strategies, but also health care professional skills training—and retraining—to improve confidence and performance to open the discussion with a patient about sexual history and HIV risk assessment in order to improve rates of HIV testing and initiation of PrEP. Resources include not only a downloadable team teaching slide kit to use in training sessions, but an accompanying video that provides insights and expertise from four national experts about how to integrate new skills and information in practice.

The PREP Skills Team Teaching Slide Kit and is a resource that can be used with staff to improve their knowledge, confidence, and skills for:
  • Engaging patients in a structured and open discussion about sexual history and sexual health to determine risk for contracting HIV.
  • Applying individual factors to PrEP treatment decision-making
  • Creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive clinical environment to promote trust with patients
To offer more context, evidence, and strategies, Sharpening Your Tools: Talking to Patients About HIV Prevention will guide you through the PREP Skills Team Teaching Slide Kit with insights and practical strategies from leading experts to help you optimize the new skills in practice.
