Statement of Need

Despite significant advances in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care, there are persistent gaps in translating clinical trial evidence into real-world practice, limiting optimal outcomes. Clinicians must keep pace with a rapidly evolving treatment landscape—including antiretroviral therapy (ART) such as long-acting injectables (LAIs)—while navigating guideline updates, resource constraints, and regional disparities. Challenges such as suboptimal implementation of rapid ART initiation, limited provider familiarity with emerging data, and real-world issues such as adherence and discontinuation highlight the need for improved clinical competency. Targeted, globally relevant education is needed to help clinicians interpret current evidence, integrate new therapies into diverse settings, individualize treatment, and implement practical strategies that improve access and patient outcomes.

In this CMEO Snack, expert faculty will discuss recent clinical trial and real-world data on the efficacy and safety of novel and emerging HIV therapies, including LAIs, and how treatment guidelines have evolved across global frameworks. Faculty will also examine how emerging evidence may shape the landscape of future clinical practice in different regions.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to better:

  • Evaluate the latest efficacy and safety data from recent clinical trials for novel and emerging therapies for HIV, including long-acting injectables

Financial Support

This activity has been supported by an independent educational grant from Gilead Sciences, Inc.

Target Audience

HIV/infectious disease (ID) specialists, primary care practitioners (PCPs), general practitioners (GPs), physician associates (PAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), nurses, and pharmacists in key regions globally: United States, Europe, Africa, and Asia
