Statement of Need

The treatment landscape for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has entered an exciting new era of precision medicine, as innovative therapies such as interleukin-23 (IL-23) inhibitors offer renewed hope for sustained remission and improved quality of life. Rapidly emerging clinical trial data, evolving guidelines, and a growing array of biologic and small-molecule therapies present complex challenges for clinicians, who must navigate differences in mechanisms of action, administration routes, and optimal treatment positioning. Despite recommendations supporting earlier initiation of advanced therapies, gaps in clinician knowledge and confidence often delay adoption of innovative treatments – delays that patients with difficult-to-treat IBD presentations, particularly perianal fistulizing disease, cannot afford. Clinicians and multidisciplinary care teams need best-in-class, evidence-based education that bridges the gap between emerging science and real-world practice, translating the latest evidence into actionable therapeutic selection strategies and personalized care for people living with IBD.

This fast-paced and highly interactive livestream CaseWise™ symposium from CME Outfitters will bring real-world clinical decision-making to life. Through dynamic patient cases, learners will evaluate the latest efficacy and safety data for the IL-23p19 inhibitor class, including evidence in fistulizing and biologic-refractory disease, and integrate these findings and current guidelines into treatment selection for people with complex or difficult-to-treat IBD. Expert faculty will model the application of current IL-23p19 class evidence to real-world decisions in complex IBD cases involving prior treatment failure, comorbidities, or extraintestinal manifestations. Informed by the perspectives of expert faculty, key opinion leaders, community clinicians, and people living with IBD, learners will be better equipped to develop individualized, patient-centered treatment plans that apply shared decision-making to the goals, quality of life priorities, and access barriers of people with challenging IBD presentations.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to better:

  • Integrate the latest efficacy, safety, and guideline data for the IL-23p19 inhibitor class into treatment selection for patients with complex or difficult-to-treat IBD, including fistulizing and biologic-refractory disease
  • Develop individualized, patient-centered treatment plans that apply SDM to the goals, QoL priorities, and access barriers of patients with challenging IBD presentations
  • Evaluate the latest clinical trial efficacy and safety data for recently approved IL-23p19 inhibitors, including evidence in fistulizing and other high-unmet-need populations
  • Apply current IL-23p19 class evidence to real-world decisions in complex IBD cases involving prior treatment failure, comorbidities, or extra-intestinal manifestations
