Statement of Need

The guidelines for obesity care have been changing, including approaches to diagnosis, innovative treatments and recommendations, and management strategies; however, obesity care for those in underserved communities has not kept pace. Clinicians in these communities need education: not only about the latest medications, but also on updated guidelines for pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments, how to personalize treatments to meet their individual patients’ needs, and the most equitable approaches to lifestyle modification and weight management. Health care professionals (HCPs) must also recognize the importance of their patients’ culture and support systems when developing treatment plans, working with a multidisciplinary team of caregivers to improve the overall health of patients.

In this CME Outfitters Snack, part of a series on health access, social responsibility, and obesity care, expert faculty will identify recent shifts in obesity diagnosis and management based on the latest guidelines, and focus on personalized, guideline-based strategies for obesity care that address disparities, cultural considerations, and effective long-term management utilizing a multidisciplinary team of caregivers.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to better:

  • Identify shifts in comprehensive obesity diagnosis and management, based on the latest guidelines with a focus on personalized care approaches
  • Implement tailored obesity care that respects patient preferences, promotes adherence, and ensures effective ongoing support
