Expanding Access – Optimizing Use of Long-Acting Injectable PrEP

Statement of Need

Long-acting injectable (LAI) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) represents a major advancement in HIV prevention, offering new opportunities to support adherence and reduce transmission, yet its optimal use remains underrealized across global healthcare settings. Many HIV/infectious disease specialists, primary care clinicians, and pharmacists worldwide lack clarity on patient selection criteria, initiation and transition strategies, and long-term monitoring requirements for LAI PrEP. These gaps, coupled with limited training and implementation barriers such as workflow challenges and stigma, restrict access for populations that could benefit most. Targeted education is needed to equip providers across the globe with the practical knowledge and confidence to integrate LAI PrEP into prevention efforts and expand access to effective, individualized HIV care.

In the third activity of this CME Outfitters Snack series, expert faculty from the United States, Europe, Africa, and Asia will discuss the latest information on LAI PrEP options for HIV, including expanding access for optimal patient selection, strategies for transitioning to an LAI and considerations for monitoring.
