ASCVD Risk Decision Aid to Inform Lipid-Lowering Therapy

Statement of Need

New guidance from the National Lipid Association emphasizes the need for simpler risk stratification and establishing LDL-C goals. Clinicians have had mixed guidance on LDL-C management and desirable lipid goals until now. We are in a new, more metabolically centered approach to lipid management and future guidelines are being prepared to support this management approach. Additionally, therapeutic inertia remains common, particularly in risk assessment, intensification of statin therapy, and use of non-statin agents such as ezetimibe, PCSK9 inhibitors, andbempedoic acid. Misperceptions persist around statin intolerance, the safety of very low LDL-C levels, and the need for aggressive lipid management across diverse populations.

This CME Outfitters program will incorporate an interactive decision-tree tool to help clinicians apply evidence-based lipid-lowering strategies in real time. Decision trees transform complex guidelines into practical, case-based pathways that clarify when to adjust therapy and integrate emerging treatments. By engaging clinicians in realistic scenarios, this format addresses inertia, corrects misconceptions, and builds confidence in individualized lipid management to improve ASCVD outcomes.
