Statement of Need

Lung cancer disproportionately affects many groups across the United States, including ethnic minorities and poor, rural, and military service individuals, with higher incidence and mortality rates. While there are many factors contributing to this observation, clinicians can address lung cancer inequities in their clinics by optimally utilizing biomarker testing, in order to provide the most effective treatments, and by identifying personal and systemic biases that reduce biomarker testing.

In this CME Outfitters BriefCase, expert faculty will use case examples to highlight the current clinical guidelines for biomarker testing and advise learners on addressing ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic barriers to optimal utilization of biomarker testing in lung cancer.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to better:

  • Identify social, economic, and clinician-driven factors that contribute to disparities in NSCLC biomarker testing and access to targeted therapy
  • Integrate evidence-based strategies to reduce disparities by promoting timely, comprehensive biomarker testing for all eligible patients with NSCLC regardless of age, race, or socioeconomic status

Financial Support

Supported by an educational grant provided by Johnson & Johnson.

Target Audience

Oncologists (academic and community), physician associates (PAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), nurses, pharmacists, radiologists, other specialists involved in oncology care (front office staff, health care administrators, executives, support staff), and patients
