Fibrosis remains one of the greatest unmet needs in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), contributing to irreversible structural bowel damage, complications, and long-term morbidity despite advances in anti-inflammatory therapies. Many gastroenterologists and multidisciplinary gastrointestinal (GI) care teams lack confidence in recognizing patients at risk for fibrotic progression and inconsistently apply objective monitoring and management strategies until complications have already developed. In addition, evolving insights into the biologic mechanisms driving chronic tissue remodeling and emerging therapeutic approaches targeting these pathways have not yet been fully integrated into routine clinical practice. This podcast, designed for gastroenterologists, GI fellows, physician associates, nurse practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists will strengthen understanding of fibrosis pathogenesis, improve risk stratification and monitoring practices, and support earlier, outcomes-focused intervention in patients with IBD.
In the second activity of this CMEO podcast series, expert faculty will assist learners to examine the biologic pathways involved in IBD-related fibrosis, recognize clinical characteristics and disease patterns associated with fibrotic progression, and implement objective monitoring and management approaches to evaluate ongoing structural bowel damage.
