Activity Description
Accurate diagnosis of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) remains a significant clinical challenge due to its variable presentations and overlap with other neuropathies, often leading to delayed treatment and avoidable disability. Making an Accurate Diagnosis: Clinical Presentation and Diagnostic Criteria is the second of five sessions in the series titled, CIDP Masterclass: Early Diagnosis, Emerging Options, Better Outcomes delivered through the Project ECHO® collaborative learning model that addresses critical gaps in diagnostic confidence by reinforcing guideline-recommended criteria while using case-based discussions to integrate pathophysiologic insights, evaluate evolving treatment options, and emphasize collaborative care strategies that support timely diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.

Rachel Caplan, MD is a practicing neurologist at Boston Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her BA in English from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, followed by her MD at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. She completed her neurology residency at Mass General Brigham in Boston, Massachusetts, then practiced general neurology at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before completing her neuromuscular fellowship back at Mass General Brigham. Her clinical focus is neuromuscular disorders and electromyography (EMG), general neurology, and hospital-based neurology. She is passionate about teaching medical students, residents, and physicians from other subspecialities.
