Statement of Need

Complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs) represent one of the most challenging and rapidly evolving areas of infectious disease management. Often more severe and harder to treat than standard UTIs, cUTIs are associated with underlying structural or functional abnormalities of the urinary tract that can lead to significant patient morbidity and poor clinical outcomes. Clinicians face increasingly diverse cUTI presentations, rising antimicrobial resistance, and a constantly shifting treatment landscape while frequently lacking the knowledge to make timely, evidence-based decisions. To keep pace with updated clinical guidelines and innovative antimicrobial therapies, clinicians and multidisciplinary care teams need practical, up-to-date education that bridges the gap between the latest evidence and real-world patient care for individuals living with cUTI.

In this CME Outfitters AI-powered precision learning activity, expert faculty will apply burden and acuity indicators to classify UTI presentations as localized vs systemic and anticipate downstream site-of-care and resource implications. Learners will be shown how to construct evidence-based empiric and targeted treatment regimens for multi-drug-resistant pathogens by integrating updated clinical algorithms and novel antimicrobial data. Faculty will model implementation of stewardship-driven transition protocols for cUTI, including site-of-care decisions and discharge planning to reduce avoidable readmission.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to better:
