CIDP Masterclass: Early Diagnosis, Emerging Options, Better Outcomes

Statement of Need

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) presents ongoing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its clinical heterogeneity, evolving pathophysiology, and inconsistent responses to standard treatment. Many health care professionals, particularly those in neurology-focused settings, require current and ongoing education on recognizing atypical presentations, incorporating emerging biomarkers like immunoglobulin G (IgG) autoantibodies, and navigating the expanding landscape of biologic therapies. Furthermore, clinicians must address not only physical impairments but also the psychosocial impacts of CIDP through multidisciplinary collaboration and patient-centered strategies. This Project ECHO® series was designed for neurologists, neuromuscular specialists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, and nurses seeking to improve diagnostic accuracy, treatment decision-making, collaboration, and long-term patient outcomes in CIDP.

In this CME Outfitters Engage the Experts recorded session, the community-based expert faculty from the Project ECHO® series will provide a comprehensive summary of key insights from the five-session CIDP Masterclass: Early Diagnosis, Emerging Options, Better Outcomes – A Project ECHO® Initiative series. Topics will include the clinical heterogeneity and pathophysiology of CIDP and the significance of IgG autoantibodies in its development, guideline-recommended diagnostic criteria to identify patients with CIDP, current and emerging treatment options including limitations of standard therapies and appropriate integration of novel agents into practice, and how to use collaborative care strategies to enhance long-term outcomes and quality of life for individuals with CIDP.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to better:

Assess the clinical heterogeneity and pathophysiology of CIDP, including the significance of IgG autoantibodies in its development
Utilize guideline-recommended diagnostic criteria to identify patients with CIDP
Evaluate current and emerging treatment options, including limitations of standard therapies and appropriate integration of novel agents into practice
Incorporate collaborative care strategies to enhance long-term outcomes and quality of life for individuals with CIDP
