Statement of Need

What if the neuropathy in front of you isn’t what it seems? Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is the most common immune-mediated peripheral neuropathy, yet it remains widely underrecognized. Because its symptoms mimic other neuropathies, CIDP is too often misdiagnosed or caught late, delaying treatment and allowing preventable disability to accumulate. Meanwhile, the field is moving fast; new insight into autoantibody pathways and neonatal Fc-receptor (FcRn)-mediated pathways is reshaping how subtypes are classified and treated, yet less than 20% of community neurologists report using current European Academy of Neurology (EAN) / Peripheral Nerve Society (PNS) guidelines.

  • Apply current understanding of CIDP heterogeneity and underlying disease pathophysiology to inform clinical assessment and management
  • Integrate current guideline-concordant diagnostic criteria to support accurate and timely identification of CIDP across its widespread constellation of clinical presentations
  • Evaluate current and emerging therapeutic strategies for CIDP, integrating interprofessional team perspectives to inform individualized treatment optimization, including appropriate patient selection and transition from conventional therapies within the context of long-term disease management
