National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV), the Family Violence Prevention Fund, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and the National Network to End Domestic Violence offer special educational efforts each October to support domestic violence programs’ awareness and education efforts for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
According to journal Lancet this month, victims of domestic violence suffer with long term health consequences. GPs and nurses who have received specialist training to ask their patients about domestic violence as well as an easy way to refer them to advocacy organizations are 22 times more likely to document referral of women suffering domestic abuse compared to those without training.
