More People Staying Connected While On Vacation

According to a study in the Annals of Tourism Research more people are using smartphones, tablets, computers and other portable technologies while on vacation.

The study showed that the number of people using smart phones have tripled. The study also found that wireless use was actually higher on vacation (40 percent) than at home (25 percent). It is interesting to note that people used the Web more to plan vacations (80 percent) than for work (70 percent).

In the recent past, individuals would minimize the use of information technology (IT) while relaxing on vacation. Today, online access is  ubiquitous and the proliferation of personal devices has made being connected easier. According to the authors, this study demonstrates how the changing nature of IT behavior in everyday life is spilling over into our vacations.
