Statement of Need

In this third of three CMEO Snacks, Dr. Dowdell and his team demonstrate the application of topical hemostasis during a procedure performed at an ambulatory surgery center. Specifically, the use of a flowable agent is prepared and administered to provide prompt and reliable hemostasis for cancellous bone bleeding – a common need in orthopedic and spine procedures. In addition, Dr. Dowdell provides tips and pearls for navigating difficult-to-access and difficult-to-visualize operative sites of bleeding and discusses topical hemostatic agents appropriate for capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this CME/CE activity, participants should be able to implement strategies to control bleeding in hospital outpatient and ambulatory surgery settings.
