PubMed Mobile Web App

Recently the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) launched a mobile friendly version of PubMed. According to NLM, there has been a significant increase in mobile browsing for medical content and they have already created several mobile medical web apps.

Features of the PubMed Mobile WebApp:

* Basic searches
* A simplified interface
* Ability to view “Free Articles” only
* It is not device specific. You can use this Web App in the browsers available on your smartphones.
* This Web App is currently in Beta and presently it is a separate link but will probably automatically detect a smartphone when it is no longer considered Beta.

The current version does not offer an option to add limits such as parameters for the publication dates.

Mobile products are a growing part of the NLM information base.  Some of NLM’s other mobile information sources are:

*Mobile MedlinePlus offers health and prescription information in English and Spanish.  It is a spinoff of NLM’s popular Web site MedlinePlus.gov and contains a selected subset of content from the original site.
*Wireless System for Emergency Responders (WISER), which provides information on hazardous substances to help first responders in hazardous materials incidents
*Radiation Emergency Medical Management (REMM), which provides guidance on diagnosis and treatment for healthcare providers during radiological and nuclear emergencies
*TOXNET, which contains databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health and toxic releases
*AIDSinfo has PDA Tools, for federally-approved treatment guidelines for adults, pregnant women, and children
