Closed Enteral Feeding Systems in Children: Best Practices and Outcomes

Lynn E. Mattis, RN, MSN
Lynn E. Mattis, RN, MSN, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Ms. Mattis is responsible for the clinical management of children requiring complex nutrition support in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. She serves as a consultant for the pediatric resident and nursing staff regarding GI disorders, nutrition support, and parenteral and enteral access device care.

Ms. Mattis has served as a co-investigator for four clinical trials studying enteral formulas for infants and children with digestive disease. She has also completed several clinical outcome studies involving children who require long-term nutrition support, and has authored numerous articles and abstracts on pediatric nutrition.

Ms. Mattis serves on the board of directors for the Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Nurses. In 2007, she was awarded the Shirley Alford Award for Compassionate Care from the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Jenifer Hampsey, MS, RD, CSP
Jenifer Hampsey, MS, RD, CSP, is a Pediatric Nutrition Practitioner at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Ms. Hampsey specializes in nutrition for pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and surgical patients. Her areas of expertise include short bowel syndrome, liver transplant, and burn injuries, as well as nutritional intervention for HIV-infected children. She is also active in providing ongoing nutrition therapy and monitoring for patients receiving nutrition support at home.

Ms. Hampsey is the coordinator for the nutrition rotation for pediatric gastroenterology fellows at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and serves as a mentor for new dietitians. She is a board certified specialist in pediatric nutrition and an active member in the American Society of Pediatric and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.).
