Cardiology Education Hub

Stay Informed While Earning Cardiology CMEs

The field of cardiology is rapidly evolving, driven by advances in drugs and technologies that have the potential to improve the cardiovascular care of their patients.

Digital health tools connect primary care providers with cardiologists, help patients better communicate with their provider and use health information to manage their care.  However, with these improvements come challenges as cardiologists and their care teams work to stay current with the therapeutic advances, field questions from their patients, and analyze an exploding volume of data available to improve the quality of care. The Cardiology Education Hub aims to provide the education, resources, and access to digital health tools necessary to meet these challenges.

Anticoagulation in NVAF and VTE: Risk Prediction Scores With Renal Criteria

When implementing anticoagulants to prevent thrombotic events (eg, stroke, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis) in non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) and/or venous thromboembolism (VTE), it is critical to balance efficacy with bleeding risk. For patients who require anticoagulation and also have renal impairment, careful risk assessment is important. Not all bleeding risk calculators include renal considerations. This tool provides those that do, with links to both online and mobile app versions.

KDIGO: Anticoagulation Considerations in Chronic Kidney Disease

Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs) have come of age and are proving to be an efficacious and convenient means to provide anticoagulation for many patients with NVAF and/or VTE. However, striking the right balance between anticoagulation and bleeding risk is paramount, especially for patients with chronic kidney disease. This resource, adapted from the KDIGO (Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes) guidelines, provides a quick reference to warfarin and DOAC dosing, including adjustments for creatinine clearance (CrCl) in patients with various levels of renal insufficiency.

Cardiology: Real-World Tactics to Address Health Inequities

Expert faculty follows the journey of a 48-year-old Black female with AF to illuminate disparities in the quality of care she is offered. Frank questions and candid discussions about the impact of implicit bias, social determinants of health, shared decision making, and health literacy provide actionable and individualized strategies to improve outcomes for all patients with AF.

Racial Disparities in Cardiac Arrythmia Care: A Call to Action

In this CME Outfitters BriefCase, expert faculty will present two to three patient cases that will showcase how clinicians can integrate best practices to mitigate disparities in the management of cardiac rhythm disorders across race, ethnicity, and gender.

Irregular Care: Racial Inequities in the Management of Cardiac Rhythm Disorders

This CME Outfitters podcast will focus on identifying inequitable processes and pathways in the prevalence, screening, diagnosis, and management of CVD/arrythmia disorders in URM populations; how HCPs can develop solutions to recognize and address biases; and how to integrate best practices and guidelines to account for structural racism and barriers in the prevention, care, and management of medically underserved patients with CVD.

Call to Action for Health Equity: Racial Disparities in the Care of Patients with Cardiometabolic Disease

This CME Outfitters Live and OnDemand will focus on identifying structural and social determinants of health (SDOH) and clinician biases that place minority patients at risk for poorer outcomes in cardiovascular disease and implementing health care practices to improve these outcomes.
